The current issue of Code magazine is focused on the application of agile practices.

I had the honor of being included with some very well respected developers in the Agile space and contributed a small MVP Corner article titled: Individuagility.

The article is a bullet list of steps that an individual developer can take to start down the road of improving their craft. It is a list that I have been able to apply in mentorship scenarios with great success. I am sure that there are other points that I could have mentioned, but you need to consider it one of many routes to arrive at the same destination: A desire for continued improvement in the realm of software development.

While you are reading the current issue of Code make sure you check out all of the other amazing articles that can serve as a great way for people to expose themselves to ideas that they may not yet be familiar/comfortable with.

Develop with Passion!!

I’d like to say thank to everyone at CoDe magazine, for coordinating with me to get a new article out of the door.

The article was created as a way to introduce people to the concepts of Layered Architecture, Dependency Inversion, and Dependency Injection.

You can check it out online here.

This past Wednesday (10th January) I gave my first talk of the year to the Calgary .Net User Group. It was the first of the lunch and learn formats that the group is starting up for the new year. What did this mean? It meant that the usual 1.5 hrs that I am used to was decreased to 1hr. As you can imagine, the pace at which I zipped around was faster than normal.

All in all I was pleased with the turnout (almost 70) and felt that lots of good information was shared. The evaluations also showed that ,all in all, most people were pleased with the level and content of the presentation.

If you are a member of a Canadian user group (or non-Canadian user group for that matter) and would like to have me give a talk, please contact me at bitwisejp@gmail.com and we can see what can be worked out. Being a member of the MSDN Canada speakers bureau means that Microsoft can offer support in the event that a Canadian user group wants me to give a presentation. I love getting out there, meeting new people, and fielding all sorts of interesting questions.

The source code for the presentation is available here (make sure to read the readme file in the root directory if you have questions as to how to get the app running).

A couple of people have been informing me that they are having trouble getting the source code from the MSDN article I wrote working. This is due to the fact that the download made available on MSDN does not contain some of the files required to build the project. To that end, I am making available a zip file that contains the correct directory structure (and accompanying readme), that should have been part of the original download. I am also going to get in contact with MSDN Magazine to ensure that they correct the download.

Thanks for your patience, and to the people who took the time to let me know of this error.

Should have mentioned this a while ago. An article I wrote on Model View Presenter has been published in MSDN magazine. It will also be available in print in the August edition.

If you have time to read the article, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thursday, May 11, 2006 9:05:42 PM (Mountain Standard Time, UTC-07:00) ( .Net 2.0 | C# | Articles )

I am posting the code for an article  that will appear in the May issue of Visual Studio Magazine. When the article was originally written it was written from a TDD perspective (which the tests will reflect). Unfortunately, my editor felt that the TDD approach detracted from the content of the article.  For those of you who know me personally, you know that I have a passion for showing people how to practically apply TDD to solve business problems. To that end, I have ensured that the source code that accompanies the article contains all of the tests that I wrote to drive out the functionality of the AddressBook.

Please feel free to provide feedback on the article, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my writing skills to achieve greater impact on the masses.

Thanks.

JP
